WHO WE ARE

The Casa Esperanza Montessori Charter School, (CEMCS), Board of Directors continually receives inquiries from persons interested in serving on the Board. The Board may appoint new members at any time if needed. However, Board terms are typically appointed at annual meetings and begin in July for a three-year term.

The Board is currently looking for business community candidates with a background in education, development, fundraising, strategic planning, and technology. It benefits the School to have a variety of backgrounds – including in education, finance, business, law and non-profit board experience or other skills that will help our Board conduct the business of governing the school.

Being a part of the CEMCS Board is a great way to be engaged in and give back to the Casa community. The Board’s focus must always be on serving the best interests of the School and upholding all aspects of fiduciary, ethical and legal responsibilities to the corporation. We are often asked by interested candidates what sort of time commitment is expected of a Casa Board member. We have 11 regularly scheduled meetings a year (every month with an annual meeting and Board Retreat in July), and each Board member is additionally required to serve one or more of the Board’s committees, which meet on a regular basis, both in person and via teleconference, throughout the year. Our workload ebbs and flows as needs arise in the school. A lot of the information is sent via the Board e-mail accounts provided by the school, and it is expected that Board members will check their e-mail frequently, review issues that arise in a timely manner, and weigh in on them as appropriate (votes are not conducted outside of our meetings).

If helping Casa in this unique way sounds appealing to you, we hope you will reach out. To submit your interest for a Board position, please e-mail the following materials to: casaboard@cemcs.org:

  1. A copy of your resume; and
  2. A completed Board Member Interest Form

Once your materials are in hand, we will contact you about the next step, which is typically an interview with the Board. In addition, Board members are more than happy to talk to you more about this opportunity or to answer any questions you may have. We look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

CEMCS Board of Directors
