Emergency Closing, School Cancellation, and Inclement Weather

It may become necessary to cancel school or close school early during terrible weather or other exceptional circumstances. Casa Esperanza Montessori Charter School shall make an independent determination about school closings or delays. In making such decisions, Casa may consider, but shall not be bound by, decisions of surrounding school districts (Alamance, Caswell, Chapel Hill, Chatham, Durham, Johnston, Orange, Randolph, and Wake). When the decision is made to close the school, parents will be notified through the following venues:

  • Casa’s emergency contact system
  • WRAL-TV/Fox 50/Channel 5
  • Casa Esperanza Montessori Charter School website

In every case, we assume that parents will make their own independent decisions about safe travel during such times. When CEMCS is open, if it is unsafe for families to travel from their homes to school, they should notify the school to let administrators know that they’ve deemed road travel dangerous.

Parents and students must make necessary arrangements in case the school closes early. Plans must include the person(s) who will be picking up the student at school. Students may not leave school with another student without the written permission of the parent. After-school care may not be available when school closes early.
